I know I have owed you all a news update for a long time. The fact that Blachloch thought I was dead is especially telling! So here’s a communiqué on where I have been, what I have been doing lately, and a status update on the stream.
Perhaps I Felt I Was Being Treated Unfairly?
I moved into a new apartment with my sister on the 4th of last month and we thought we had everything set up to go. The Internet Service Providers in this area have all worked out area monopolies with each other, so a certain section of town can only have Verizon Fios while another can only have AT&T U-Verse while another can only have Comcast. You get the idea. It is as corrupt as a Hutt’s backside, but what could we do? We seem to be made to suffer. It’s our lot in life. So we submitted an order for Verizon Fios (which is the only service available to our apartment complex) about a week and a half before we were supposed to move in. So far so good.
The only problem was, right about that time Verizon was in the process of selling out their Fios service in California, Texas and Florida to a company called Frontier -and let me tell you, the transition was abysmal! They botched it worse than the defense of the first Death Star. Nobody showed up on the internet installation day which had already been delayed until the 12th because of the transition -and when we called to find out why nobody had showed up, they had no record of our order whatsoever. We had to submit an entirely new order which was then only servicable on the 25th.
Yes, you read that right. No internet or TV for three weeks. I should have sent Vader to “motivate” them.
Anyway, I read books. I unpacked boxes. I took walks. My pallid, Sith flesh experienced sunlight for the first time in years. Let me tell you something about going outside: The graphics are great but the storyline is terrible.
Anyway, when the installation guy finally showed up on the 25th, lo and behold, he was there to service the previous tenants and not us! If I had been a do-gooder Jedi, I would have immediately fallen to the dark side. What’s more, he wasn’t sure he could process our installation order if it wasn’t under our name. But through an arcane dark side ritual known as grovelling, I managed to overcome his feeble mind and he finally installed our internet. (Incidentally, my sister received a call from Frontier yesterday about our original order wanting to know if we still wanted service. Her training in using Force Choke is now complete).
Last week I managed to catch up on the Visions in the Dark chapter over a couple of play sessions, but then I got busy again with family over the weekend and that kept me distracted until Wednesday of this week. I managed to get the new Profit and Plunder chapter downloaded but could only sit down to it on Thursday night, just before recording Episode 8 of Passionately Casual Podcast with Jessie, Will and Marshall (of The Usual Podcast) and Alise. (JT was out this week undergoing another surgery, so keep him in your thoughts, please). I was able to dabble some with the Eternal Championship, but I haven’t been able to tackle the new warzones just yet -so the start to getting back into the swing of things has been slow, but things are picking up again quickly.
While I was waiting, I did an awful lot to improve the quality of the stream. Those 4 FPS issues are a thing of the past -thank Mandalore- and in certain sections the pink swirly video background is back (my old-school viewers will know what I am talking about). I had to rebuild all the scenes in a new installation of OBS on my new computer, and just last night I managed to get my second monitor set up. I am also no longer connected wirelessly. So in short, the stream quality should be beautiful going forward. It is impressive. Most impressive.
I should also announce at this point that I am widening the focus of my stream content to any and all Star Wars games. I have focused solely on SWTOR until now, but like many others I find the lulls between chapters to be slower than I would like. With no new raiding content, I share the sentiment of many that the game can feel pretty stale sometimes, so while SWTOR will remain the flagship game of my stream content -and the only MMO- I will be putting some time into streaming Empire at War, the Jedi Knight games, Battlefront, and the plethora of other Star Wars games that exist. We’ll start it off slow though. I am in no rush to take on too much just yet.
All of that said, stay tuned. I am relaunching the stream hopefully tomorrow night (May 8th, look for me around 9 p.m. CDT) and will stream a bunch this week. See you on Twitch!
