There have been some recent changes to the officer corps of the Unholy Alliance/Wookiee Mistake guilds, an organizational outcome of a process began during an all-guild meeting over the summer in which many expressed a renewed interest in forming progression operations teams and in redoubling our efforts to grow and keep social guild activities at the forefront of guild life in UA/WM. One thought on the part of the guild leadership was to open up an opportunity for one or two new officers to help drive the initiatives (each officer in the UA/WM guild has an area of specialization and oversight, including, among others, managing the guild bank, running our guild’s operations effort, planning social events, etc). One such opportunity was recruitment, a post for which I applied shortly after the position went live.
I am pleased to announce that I was selected for the post, and serve now as the recruitment officer for Unholy Alliance/Wookiee Mistake. Selected for different officer positions along with me were Azzy (progression operations) and Gem (social media).
I just wanted to take a minute to write a short announcement article for my website expressing my appreciation to the UA/WM guild for their investment of faith in me. I was required to submit an overview of my strategy with regard to recruiting for a guild, and I hope what I have planned will serve the guild well. Among my points were the following, which will serve as the backbone of my effort to get my hands dirty growing the guild:
- I believe in using recruitment as a tool to reinforce and solidify guild character/culture, not overwhelm and dilute it. I do not desire to see the culture of UA/WM change as an unintentional result of my efforts. I like what we have going here and I consider it important to preserve and strengthen it.
- I believe in gradual, responsible growth momentum, not huge bursts in recruiting that will threaten to overwhelm our guild’s current culture.
- I believe in careful and intentional assimilation of new members, ensuring they find a place in the guild and are welcomed.
- I believe in getting out there to actually recruit, making progress in this pursuit.
In short, I believe in recruiting for quality, not quantity.
That said, I want to ask for help on behalf of my guildmates. Please let me know if you /ginvite anyone new to the guild as it falls to me to ensure follow up, seeing that new members are signing up for our website, that they learn how avid we are in using the guild calendar to coordinate our events, that they are brought into Discord, etc. I would also like to track sources of recruitment during my tenure in this position so that I have some analytics to report to the rest of the officers when they have need.
For my stream audience, this may (ironically, I know) obligate me to spend a little more time on the Republic side as the guild has need, as I don’t want to neglect the Republic side of our guild and favor only the Imperial side as my stream persona is likely to do. I have people depending on me in this regard, and I want to deliver what I promised.
For Unholy Alliance/Wookiee Mistake, I want to thank you guys again. I already believe we are by far the best guild in all of SWTOR, and that accomplished through none of my own efforts, though I have been a beneficiary for a long time. I am glad to have this opportunity to show others just how awesome you guys are. In the words of the great Jar Jar Binks, “Meesa honored to acceptin’ thisa heavy burden.”
